How to Grant ADB Permissions to Resolution Changer via PC (Step-by-Step Guide)
How to Grant ADB Permissions to Resolution Changer App via PC
A complete, beginner-friendly walkthrough to change screen resolution, aspect ratio (iPad view), and DPI on any Android device without root.
📌 What You Will Learn
Android requires a special system-level permission (WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS) before third-party apps can modify your display resolution or density. In this guide, you will learn how to grant this permission in less than 5 minutes using your computer and an ADB command—no root required!
Requirements Before You Start
- Android Device: Running Android 7.0 or higher.
- Resolution Changer App: Installed on your device from Google Play Store.
- PC or Laptop: Running Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- USB Data Cable: Good quality original cable to connect your phone to PC.
Step 1: Enable Developer Options on Android
Before you can use USB debugging, you need to unlock the hidden Developer Options menu on your phone:
- Open Settings on your Android phone.
- Scroll down and tap About Phone (or System > About Phone).
- Find Build Number (On Xiaomi/Redmi: OS/MIUI Version; on Realme/Oppo: Version > Build Number).
- Tap Build Number 7 times continuously. You will see a toast notification saying: "You are now a developer!".
Step 2: Enable USB Debugging
Now allow the PC to communicate with your Android device:
- Go back to the main Settings > tap Developer Options (often under Additional Settings or System).
- Toggle ON USB Debugging.
- When prompted, click OK to confirm.
⚠️ Critical Note for Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO & Realme Users:
On MIUI / HyperOS: You MUST also turn ON "USB Debugging (Security Settings)" (requires Mi Account login & SIM card inserted). Without this, the grant command will fail!
On ColorOS / Realme UI: Turn OFF "Disable Permission Monitoring" if available.
Step 3: Setup ADB on Your Computer
You need Google's official ADB Platform Tools on your PC:
- Download Google's official SDK Platform-Tools for Windows (Download Link).
- Extract the downloaded
platform-tools_xxxx.zipfile onto your desktop orC:\platform-tools. - Open the extracted folder, click on the address bar at the top, type cmd and press Enter. This will open the Command Prompt directly in that directory.
Step 4: Connect Device & Authorize ADB
- Connect your phone to the PC using your USB cable (select File Transfer / MTP mode).
- In your Command Prompt, type the following command and hit Enter:
adb devices
- Check your phone's screen! A pop-up prompt will appear saying "Allow USB Debugging?".
- Check the box "Always allow from this computer" and tap Allow.
- Run
adb devicesonce again. You should now see your phone's serial number followed by the word device (e.g.988a7c64 device).
Step 5: Run the Grant Permission Command
Copy and paste the appropriate grant command into your Command Prompt window and press Enter:
adb shell pm grant com.integer.it.resolutionchanger android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Note: If your Resolution Changer app has a different package name (for instance, an iPad view changer tool or custom APK), replace com.integer.it.resolutionchanger with your app's exact package name.
adb shell pm grant com.integer.it.resolutionchanger android.permission.DUMP
✅ If Command Prompt returns a blank new line without any errors, congratulations! The permission has been granted successfully.
Step 6: Verify and Configure Resolution
- Disconnect your phone from the computer.
- Open your Resolution Changer app on Android.
- Notice that the permission warning banner is now completely gone!
- You can now set custom resolutions (such as 1080x1920, 1440x2560, iPad 4:3 aspect ratios for gaming like PUBG/BGMI), adjust density (DPI), or apply presets instantly.
Troubleshooting Common ADB Issues
🔴 Error: 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command
Solution: Make sure you opened CMD directly inside the platform-tools folder where adb.exe resides, or add platform-tools to your Windows System PATH environment variables.
🔴 Device Status says 'unauthorized'
Solution: Unplug the USB cable, plug it back in, unlock your phone, and look for the "Allow USB Debugging" pop-up. Check "Always allow" and tap Allow.
🔴 java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial
Solution: This is common on Xiaomi/Redmi phones. Go to Developer Options and ensure "USB Debugging (Security settings)" is toggled ON.
🎉 You're All Set!
You have successfully unlocked full control over your display resolution without rooting your phone. If this guide helped you, feel free to share it with friends!
